UX-CAT-005 — Remove the inert Catalog metastore setting
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Status | Open finding; source-verified |
| Severity | Medium |
| Affected surface | Catalog sidebar Settings menu |
| Implementation issue | oqullus #544 |
| Code-change repository | sparqd/oqullus |
Where the problem appears
Open the Catalog gear in gj76anadpsc, workspace w-t5e2kcxjd, select its metastore item, and compare it with deployed environment information.
Concrete observed case
The menu shows metastore_aws_ap_southeast_2 in the assessed AliCloud workspace. Selecting it performs no navigation, state change, configuration request, or health check.
Expected condition
Remove the gear. If metastore diagnostics become necessary, place authoritative endpoint, version, provider, and health information in an admin-only operational view.
Cause and evidence
- The item is hard-coded rather than sourced from deployment state.
- Its action is inert.
- The displayed provider/region conflicts with the assessed environment.
Why it matters
Internal infrastructure is presented as a configurable user setting and communicates false environment information.
Existing controls and workarounds
Ignore the menu and use approved operational tooling for metastore configuration and health.
Alternatives considered
- Recommended: remove the control.
- Admin-only live diagnostics backed by deployment and health APIs.
- Correct only the hard-coded label — rejected because the action would remain non-functional.
Component involvement
- Oqullus removes the false setting.
- Platform/operations owns any future diagnostic contract.
- Product defines whether users need metastore visibility at all.
Reproduction and verification
Follow CAT-S019. Record the visible state, request outcome, effective identity, and recovery behavior relevant to this finding.
Resolution conditions
Close when the inert item is absent or replaced by an authorized, live, accurate, and actionable diagnostic view.
Validation and blockers
Oqullus is primary; platform and operations validate any replacement.
